Interesting Start to Euro 2012

I'm sure Poland was considered slight favourite to win the Euro opener against Greece.

And Poland certainly started well. During the first half, and a little bit of the second half, the Polish team just kept coming and coming, attacking with purpose, and keeping the Greeks on the back foot.
No wonder, therefore, that Lewandowski quickly put the hosts ahead, in the 17th minute, with a cool header that left Chalkias no chance.

Then, right before the half, Papastathopoulos was sent off and Greece was left with ten men.

But it was the Greeks who mobilized better after the interval, and Salpingidis scored, just 6 minutes into the second half, to penalize the bumbling Polish defenders.

Unbelievably, Greece could have won the match, but Karagounis missed a penalty in the 71st minute. Szczesny, the Arsenal and Poland goalkeeper, had been sent off for a(n almost inexistent) foul, as last defender, just prior to that.
Not even to mention that the Greeks had a goal disallowed very soon after that, for offside, too.

Poland has a lot of work to do, to advance, and Greece certainly should not be written off, in by far the weakest group at this tournament, in terms of international football value of the teams in it.
