Making errors while playing the offside trap. That's what actually deflated Young Boys Bern today.
I've always said a team shouldn't play the offside trap against a better team. But people will always erroneously think they're smarter/better than everybody else, and then pay for it.
Thus happened with Ulrich Forte, the coach of the Bern team.
Everything was going well for them, and they were even up 1-0, with 19 minutes to go, thanks to a headed goal, from a corner, which punished Basel's defenders' absent-mindedness.
And then, in three minutes, Basel was in the lead. A lead they would not give up.
Two badly-played offside moves by YBB players deprived them of three points that they worked hard for. (Basel had been pressing to score for most of the match up to that point.)
Now, Young Boys is only three points ahead of Basel, and could even find itself tied on points with Grasshopper, who has played one less match and is also three points behind YBB. That's because Young Boys lost their last two matches, and did so against their biggest rivals.
